Spring fun & funny stuff

I live 20 km north of the center of Helsinki. I had a dentist appointment there and did some shopping. I went to see also the Marimekko Spring Collection. To give you a splash of color I post a couple of examples of perhaps the most famous Marimekko design - Unikko. If you google it, you'll find hundreds of examples. Unikko was designed by Maija Isola in 1964 and has returned to production.

Also I found a site where you can look Marimekko's different designs through the years. It is a web exhibition of Design Museum.

My Bloody Books!

I started a book blog called Kirja vieköön! It means literally Let the books take me along... But Google Translator insists that it is Book bloody well! Almost like My Bloody Books! Oh dear, what will the English speaking readers think of me!

Last weekend we got so heavy snow fall that it almost buried me in the snow. I made a post with photos called The End of the World.

The ATP Tournament is on its way. This week I watched The Dubai Open. The players earn a lot of money but at the cost of being on tour 8 months a year...

What else... I participated in the Makrotex Challenge with my Color Palettes...

That was this week in a nutshell.
Have a lovely weekend and the week ahead!

  1. Tosiaan kiva postaus! :)
Olet oikeassa, sininen on jotenkin meidän suomalaisten oma väri. Ja miten voi olla jotain niin söpöä kuin vaikka kuvasi 'Sorbet Phantom'?
    Ihanaa viikonloppua!

    1. Minulle Marimekon kuviot ovat vähän liian isoja :) Mutta aikoinaan minulla on ollut keittiön verhona isoa vihreää Unikkoa! Vastikään on julkaistu kirja 'Marimekon vuosikymmenet' - tms. Ja Kirsti Paakkanen oli aikoinaan pomoni :)) Siitä tuli tämä aihe mieleen. Ehkä kiinnostaa Five on Friday -postaajia...

    2. Kirjan nimi näyttää olevan 'Marimekko - suuria kuvioita'. Julkaisuvuosi 2015.

    3. Kiitos! Varmaan mielenkiintoinen kirja. Ja sinullahan on sisäpiirin näkökulmaa aiheeseen. :)
Suuria kuvioita... Me suomalaisethan hyvin muistamme miten M:n design on ollut osana myös USA:n presidentinvaaleja, kun Jackie Kennedy halusi näyttää modernilta, optimistiselta ja samalla vähemmän yläluokkaiselta. Jackien tyylin perusasiat näyttävät upealta edelleen, ainakin minusta.

  4. The translation was very funny. I remember designs similar in the late 60s and early 70s usually on cushions, curtains and bedspreads. I had something similar in my bedroom at the time in purple and turqoise. I love the blue flowers in your mosaic:)

  5. I think seeing the Marimekko Spring collection cheered you after your dentist's appointment in Helsinki! I'm sure you must be philosophical about the snow - a pretty photo of it and the collage of blue/purple is uplifting because I love pansies and delphiniums. Google Translator brings up the strangest translations - I had to smile at your example! Have a good weekend.

  8. Translations can be very humorous, can't they? The snow in your photo is so beautiful. Here we have passed another winter with not one flake falling. I do miss the snow. Marimekko designs are so bright and cheerful and you've shown a great collection of them.

  11. So lovely to see all that snow, we had really none of that this winter...
So unique to be able to combine the dentist with looking at new Marimekko designs!
By the way, I am in love with your black and white cat, what a beauty.
    Love from Mirjam.
